Melatonin barely speeds up sleep, leaves millions groggy, and new research raises bigger questions. Here's why over 2,300 clinicians are pointing patients to a melatonin-free alternative.
01Reason
Melatonin is America's most popular sleep aid, so you'd expect it to work wonders. But when researchers examined 19 clinical studies covering 1,683 people, they found melatonin only cut the time it takes to fall asleep by 7 minutes on average.1
Seven minutes. That's one more round of doom-scrolling.
And falling asleep is only half the battle. Melatonin only helps you fall asleep, it doesn't help you stay asleep, reach deep restorative sleep, or prevent you from waking up at 3am.
02Reason
Everyone is familiar with the melatonin hangover: waking up with a dull headache, heavy eyelids, a foggy brain that doesn't clear until lunch.
However, after a recent study from 2025 presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions, that may be the least of your concerns. Researchers looked at the health records of more than 130,000 adults with insomnia, and found that those who took melatonin for a year or more were about 90% more likely to be diagnosed with heart failure over the next five years.2
The study shows a link, not proof that melatonin causes heart failure. But it's a good reason to think twice about taking that synthetic hormone every night.
03Reason
This natural spice has been used to quiet the mind since Persian and Ayurvedic healers first prescribed it over 3,000 years ago.
In a 28-day, placebo-controlled trial, adults with poor sleep who took saffron extract cut their insomnia severity score by 25% and raised their restorative-sleep score by 20%.3 A second, 120-person trial confirmed the sleep-quality gains and found saffron raised the body's natural melatonin production. No hangover, no fog.4
Every serving of Wonder Sleep contains 60mg of saffron extract — the same clinically meaningful dose that's proven to aid sleep in humans. Not just a sprinkle for the label.
04Reason
Falling asleep is one thing. Waking up actually rested is another.
Chinese emperors guarded reishi so closely it earned the name "mushroom of immortality." For over 2,000 years, it's been the go-to in Traditional Chinese Medicine for a body that needs to power down.
In an 8-week clinical trial, people taking reishi extract reported 28% less fatigue, and twice as many improved compared to placebo.5 Wonder Sleep uses 200mg of 10:1 fruiting-body reishi extract in every serving.
05Reason
Ever wake up at 3am with your mind already running? That's not a timing problem. It's tension.
Indigenous peoples of the Americas used passionflower for centuries to ease a tension, and by the 1500s it had spread to Europe.
In a 2-week, placebo-controlled study of 110 adults with insomnia, passionflower extract added about 23 minutes of additional sleep per night, measured by overnight polysomnography, not a questionnaire.6
06Reason
The world's oldest bedtime remedy is also one of its most studied.
Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans all turned to chamomile to settle the body at night. Modern science kept testing it.
A 2019 meta-analysis pooling 12 randomized trials found chamomile significantly improved sleep quality.7 In Wonder Sleep, chamomile and passionflower work alongside GABA and Corydalis in a six-ingredient formula built to work with your natural sleep cycle, not against it.
+Bonus reason
Most herbal sleep gummies hide tiny, ineffective amounts behind a "proprietary blend." Wonder Sleep shows every dose on the label: 4,300mg of clinically studied mushrooms, herbs and adaptogens per serving, dosed to match the research.
That's a big reason we've sold over 100 MILLION gummies, and why doctors, nurses and pharmacists have taken notice.
Over 2,300 clinicians recommend Wonder Sleep, without a single dollar of compensation.

No. Wonder Sleep is formulated to help you wake up refreshed, not foggy. It works with your body's natural rhythm, so you get the most out of your sleep while you're asleep and feel clear-headed when you wake up.
Take two gummies about 30 minutes to an hour before bed. For best results, take them nightly. The ingredients build on each other and work even better over time.
Melatonin is a hormone your body makes on its own to start sleep. When you keep supplementing it, you're telling your body it doesn't need to make as much itself. Research also shows only modest benefits for falling asleep, and it's commonly linked to next-day grogginess.
Wonder Sleep is sweetened with maltitol and isomalt, sugar alternatives that are lower in calories and won't spike your blood sugar. Each serving is just 15 calories, and the gummies are 100% vegan with a wild elderberry flavor.
Absolutely. Listen to your body first: when adding a new supplement, introduce one at a time and give yourself a few days to adjust.
